Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-07-04.
This page describes how personal data is handled by metafunctor.com and by companion, the personal command-line tool used to publish educational videos to the site operator’s own YouTube channel.
The site and the tool are operated by Alexander Towell (contact: lex@metafunctor.com), a single individual. There is no company, no team, and no third-party user base.
The companion publishing tool and YouTube API Services
The companion command-line tool uses YouTube API Services to upload videos, edit their titles and descriptions, manage thumbnails, and order playlists on the operator’s own YouTube channel (youtube.com/@queelius).
By using an application that calls the YouTube API, you are agreeing to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. The tool’s use of information received from YouTube API Services adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Google’s handling of any data it receives is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
Who uses it. The tool is not distributed to anyone and has no sign-up, no accounts, and no user-facing interface. It is run only by the operator, on the operator’s own machine, to manage the operator’s own channel.
Authentication. The tool authenticates through the standard Google OAuth 2.0 desktop flow. The operator signs in with their own Google Account to authorize the tool against their own channel. The resulting OAuth token is stored locally on the operator’s computer (with restricted file permissions) and is never transmitted to any third party or to metafunctor.com.
Data collected from you. None. The tool does not collect, request, store, or transmit personal data from any viewer, visitor, or third party. It reads and writes only the operator’s own YouTube content, and only to publish it.
Data retention and deletion. Because the tool stores no third-party user data, there is nothing to retain or delete on anyone’s behalf. The operator’s own locally stored OAuth token can be deleted at any time by removing it from the local machine, and access can be revoked at any time from the Google Account permissions page. Revoking access there immediately invalidates the tool’s ability to act on the channel.
metafunctor.com
metafunctor.com is a static website. It embeds published YouTube videos using
YouTube’s privacy-enhanced (youtube-nocookie.com) player, so YouTube does not
set tracking cookies for embedded playback until you choose to play a video. At
that point, playback is subject to the
YouTube Terms of Service and the
Google Privacy Policy.
The site uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic. Analytics data is handled under the Google Privacy Policy.
The site does not sell personal data and does not require an account to read its content.
